Register or Transfer a Domain Name

There are a couple of diffrent ways to register or transfer a domain name. It is important to choose correctly depending on whether you want to configure a hosting account with the domain or not.

Rochen customers can now register a new domain name or transfer an existing domain name without the need to create an account under their hosting plan at the same time. Using this domain-only tool will register or transfer a domain name by itself but not configure a web hosting account for it. This domain-only tool is what this guide will cover.

Customers with a Solo, Growth, Pro, Reseller Plan or Premium Web Hosting plan who wish to register or transfer a domain name and also create a hosting account under their plan for the domain name at the same time can do this by logging into the My Rochen customer portal, selecting the “Manage Hosting” menu, clicking your primary account and then “Create Account”. This will allow you to both register or transfer a domain name and create a web hosting account for it at the same time. We have made available a guide for this process too and it’s likely the option most customers will want to use.

The domain-only registration and transfer tool described in this guide can also prove useful for Managed Cloud Server (MCS) customers who wish to add a domain and then create a hosting account on their MCS via their Web Host Manager (WHM) control panel after it has been registered.

Steps To Follow to Register or Transfer a Domain Name Only

1. Login to the My Rochen customer portal, click “Manage Domains”, then “Add New Domain”. Select either “Register” or “Transfer” and then enter your domain name.

2. Next, select the name servers you wish to point the domain to. If you’re planning to eventually use this domain with a Solo, Growth, Pro, or Premium Web Hosting plan at Rochen then select the first “rochendns.com” option. If you plan to use this domain with a Reseller Plan or Managed Cloud Server (MCS) or point the domain to a third-party DNS then select the second “custom” option and enter your private name servers.

3. If you select the “Transfer” option you will now also be asked to enter the EPP transfer authorization code which must be obtained from your current domain registrar. If you are transferring a .uk domain, instead of being asked to enter an EPP code, you will instead be asked to update the “IPS Tag” at the current registrar to “ENOM”. Please ensure the domain name is unlocked at the current registrar too.

4. Finally, review your domain registration or transfer details and then once you’re satisfied click “Purchase Domain”. Domain transfers may take up to 7 days to complete. In the case of a transfer one year will be added to the current expiration date. Your domain name can then be managed through the “Manage Domain Names” section within the My Rochen customer portal.
