The Rochen Vault is our Enterprise Level backup and recovery system available to all our customers on shared hosting plans and Managed Cloud Servers. Various restore points are available over the previous 30 days.
How does it work?
Rochen Vault works by taking a block level snapshot of the entire server (including all files under your account and all MySQL databases) and storing it off-server on high performance Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances. It runs at the kernel level and “images” each block on the hard disk to create a snapshot instead of backing up individual files.
To all of our valued clients, please note: Even though we make this service available to you, as explained in our ToS, at all times, your data integrity is your responsibility. We suggest and encourage you to always take backups for your own and save them to your local machine.
General Notes
In 99% of cases you’ll only need to restore files inside your public_html directory and not your entire home directory (which contains system files that should not be modified).
The Rochen Vault restores files back to the point that you choose, it will not delete/remove unrelated files under your account.
Be sure to backup and remove the content you will be restoring prior to launching the restore to prevent any quota issue, and to prevent any recently added content from remaining after the restore.
The Rochen Vault restore will automatically overwrite files if they already exist.
Rochen Vault restores are not always instant. Depending on other jobs in the queue you may need to wait for your restore to finish.
How to restore files on a shared hosting plan
1) Login to your Rochen cPanel.
2) Select the icon named “Restore Vault Backup” within cPanel (look for this icon shown below in cPanel).
3) Follow the instructions on how to proceed in the “Quick Instructions” section above the Rochen Vault restore window.
Restoring MySQL databases on any plan type
If you need a MySQL database restore you’ll need to submit a Tech Support ticket via your MyRochen customer portal.
Please ensure you clearly state the full database name as well as the Rochen Vault Restore Point ID Number (or time-stamp) so we can restore your database for you.
The database must already exist under your account before we can restore its contents.
Please be sure not to delete your database prior to the restore otherwise the restore may not be possible in rare circumstances (if you have any tables using the InnoDB storage engine for example).
Managed Dedicated Server and Managed Virtual Server clients:
At this time Rochen Staff will need to operate the Rochen Vault for you. Simply submit a Tech Support ticket via your MyRochen customer portal specifying the exact files or directories that you need restored along with the approximate date, time, and timezone you need it restored to.
IMPORTANT! — When submitting your restore request you don’t need to specify a domain name or URL for us to restore since those details would be ambiguous and could point to different locations.
Be sure to instead include the full path to the files or directory you need restored. A full path will always start with “/home/username/[…]” (where “username” is your cPanel account username).
For example, “/home/username/public_html” is be a common restore request when a full document root restore for your primary domain is needed.
If you’re unsure of the full path to the directory you need restored, please login to your Rochen cPanel and use the File Manager tool to locate the directory you need restored. You’ll then be able to see the path to that directory (relative to your /home/username directory) at the top of the directory tree in the left column. Note that Linux is case-sensitive, so the directory name “images” is different from “IMAGES”.
