Choosing an FTP Client

There are both free and paid FTP clients available. Generally the paid-for software will come with technical support available from the developer where a free client may not have support or it may be community-based support only.

Four popular FTP clients which you may wish to consider using and we have interactive walkthroughs for some of these within this section of the Knowledge Base (KB) include –

FileZilla Client — a free download available from http://filezilla-project.org

SmartFTP — a paid download available from http://www.smartftp.com

CuteFTP — a paid download available from http://www.cuteftp.com

WS_FTP — a paid download avlailable from: http://www.wsftp.com

Please note, not all FTP clients support every feature. For example, CuteFTP Home Edition does not support Secure FTP (SFTP). We find that FileZilla Client meets the needs for most clients as it is a free download and supports most all features including FTP, SFTP, and FTPS.
