Using Secure FTP (FTPS) to Transfer Files

Secure FTP (FTPS) is available on all Rochen servers by default. FTPS provides end-to-end encryption for all data you transfer between your local client machine and the server. It also encrypts the sending of your username and password when establishing the FTP connection.

We would advise using FTPS whenever possible as it is far more secure than regular FTP where your username, password and data are sent in clear text to the server.

A few FTP clients which support FTPS include:

FileZilla Client

a free cross-platform download available from http://filezilla-project.org (recommended)

In order to connect using FTPS with FileZilla simply enter your FTP details as normal in the Site Manager and then click the drop down “Encryption:” listbox and select “Require explicit FTP over TLS” to enable FTPS mode.

SmartFTP

a free download available from http://www.smartftp.com

CuteFTP Pro

a paid download available from http://www.cuteftp.com

There are additional FTP clients available which support the FTPS protocol as well.  A basic Google Search will bring up many results.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this feature by opening a support ticket via My Rochen at: https://my.rochen.com or posting within the “General Hosting Customer Support” section of the Customer Forums and we will be happy to answer them.
